Pureora Forest Trip

Over the last few trips to Pureora, Peter Bowler showed around some great tracks.

But!

There always seemed to be more on each side of the main roads in and out of where we went. Over grown and heading up into the bush or pines, or dropping out of sight below road level.

Sounds like an excuse to go for a drive and find a few places to get stuck.

Yup. . .

First track. First hole.

The rut was deep enough to dump the truck on it's side if you took the wrong line.

Here, Griff tries to take that wrong line. . .

Most of the tracks looped around on themselves and then back onto the main track and either headed through native bush, pine forest or skirted the boundary between the two. One of the tracks looked like it had been attacked by serious gear, the ruts being well over 35" tyre depth.

Eventually we ended up following a loop track that led us back to the far end of Bog Inn, a track we had tried last time. . .

. . . the track had been cleared a bit by a small digger at the start. But it soon got better. . .

. . . one of the holes scoured into the pumice by the rain was well over 10' deep. A track had been cut around it though.

Standard Rangie in it's element.

On the way out, Mars translates his winning RTI score into practical wheel travel!

After a cracker day in the bush and a turn around just after 4pm we all headed out in daylight, just!

Maratoto Track

Another dirty weekend away at Maratoto!

Oops not a good place to stop, looks like it's time to bale out.

Now where can I find a car wash?

I think I can, I think I can, oops no I can't!

Come on Griff - shake a leg!

I can get up this little wet muddy hill.

Phew - made it, only about 50 more to go.

Bank one LandRover nil.

Bank two Range Rover nil - when track meet's open window!

The day after the night before - fortunately the First Lady was still away!
